Online Reporting Tool

Online Reporting Tool Launch

At Wits University, we are committed to fostering a safe, inclusive, and respectful campus environment for all. The Transformation and Employment Equity Office (TEEO) plays a key role in advancing this vision by promoting equity, dignity, and accountability. As part of this commitment, we are introducing a new Online Reporting Tool — designed to make it easier for members of the Wits community to report incidents of sexual harassment, discrimination, or gender-based violence securely and confidentially.

The Online Reporting Tool provides a secure digital platform where students and staff can report incidents of rape, sexual assault, harassment, discrimination, gender-based violence, or related misconduct — either on their own behalf or on behalf of others.

This new tool complements existing in-person reporting channels and aims to improve accessibility, confidentiality, and institutional responsiveness.

Purpose and Objectives

The tool was developed to enhance how Wits University receives, manages, and responds to reports of sexual and gender-based misconduct. It supports a more coordinated, survivor-centred, and data-informed approach, ensuring that every report is handled with care and sensitivity.

This initiative also responds directly to concerns and recommendations raised by survivors and the broader university community, including the need for:

  • A safe and anonymous reporting mechanism

  • Improved tracking of repeat offenders

  • Case status updates for transparency and accountability

  • Stronger data-driven interventions and prevention strategies

How It Works

You can choose to submit a report with full disclosure (including your personal information) or anonymously.

All submissions are treated with strict confidentiality and are only accessible to authorised personnel within the Transformation and Gender Equity Office. Information will not be shared with external parties unless legally required.

  • If you submit your report with personal details, a TEEO representative may contact you to offer additional assistance or support.

  • If you report anonymously, the incident will still be assessed and appropriate action taken where possible, based on the information provided.

After submitting your report, you will receive a unique reference number, which you can use to follow up on your case status.

Support and Resources

The Online Reporting Tool does not replace existing support services — it simply expands access to reporting options. Members of the Wits community may still visit the TEEO offices for in-person support, guidance, and referrals.

If you need immediate medical or psychological assistance following an incident of rape or sexual assault, please contact the Campus Health and Wellness Centre or reach out via the 24-hour emergency hotline for urgent support.

A Step Towards a Safer, More Inclusive Wits

The launch of the Online Reporting Tool reflects Wits University’s ongoing commitment to promoting equity, accountability, and care across the institution.

By improving access to reporting and strengthening the response to incidents of gender-based violence and discrimination, we take another important step toward a campus where every voice is valued and every person feels safe.

Together, we can build a Wits community grounded in respect, integrity, and inclusion.
