Meet the Team

Mahloromela Silas Seabi - Chairperson

Current study: MSc in Computer Sciences

Degrees Held:

  • BSc Honours in Computer Sciences
  • BSc in Computer Sciences and Computational & Applied Mathematics

Responsibilities:

  • The head of the Association and acts as the spokesperson for the Association.
  • Lead the Postgraduate Association, focusing on postgraduate-specific issues, research opportunities, and funding.
  • Liaise with university management, external bodies, and the broader student community.
  • Chair PGA meetings and represent postgraduate students at university governance structures.
Mpho Mothupi - Deputy Chairperson

Current study: Master of Science in Medicine by Research in the Department of Anatomical Sciences focusing on Breast cancer

Degrees Held:

  • Bachelor of Health Sciences Honours in Chemical Pathology from Wits University
  • Bachelor of Health Sciences in Biomedical Sciences

Responsibilities:

  • Provides support to the Chairperson and undertakes all duties necessary for the day-to-day administration of the Association during any absence of the Chairperson.
  • Oversee specific projects or initiatives as directed by the Chairperson.
  • During any period of absence of the Chairperson, becomes the acting Chairperson.
Elijah Mashishi - Secretary

Current study: Master of Science by Dissertation in Physics focusing on Dark Matter

Degrees Held:

  • Bachelor of Sciences Honours in Physics from Wits University
  • Bachelor of Sciences in Astronomy and Astrophysics from Wits University

Responsibilities:

  • Acts as the contact point for the Association, collects incoming mail (where appropriate) and distributes it to the appropriate committee members.
  • Gives notice to all members of the Association, including notice of the meetings to the appropriate members of the Association.
  • Records minutes of all proceedings and resolutions of all meetings.
  • During any period of absence of the Treasurer, becomes the acting Treasurer.

 

 

Shadrack Mothadi - Treasurer

Current study: Master of Science in Civil Engineering

Degrees Held: BSc in Civil Engineering from Wits University

Responsibilities:

  • The chief financial management officer for the Association and liaises with the Audit Committee and the Dean of Students.
  • Deals with financial exclusions of postgraduate students.
  • Monitors the budget by keeping monthly statements of the account.
  • Represents the Association on committees, working groups or task teams that deal with financial policies of the University.
  • During any period of absence of the Secretary becomes the acting Secretary.
Sibusiso Ngele - Academic Representative

Degrees Held: BSc Honours In Biochemistry and Cell Biology

Responsibilities:

  • Deals with academic and administrative issues related to postgraduate students and liaises with all the Faculty Representatives of the Association.
  • Deals with academic exclusions of postgraduate students.
  • Implements the Association’s objectives to deal with academic and administrative issues related to research and coursework students and liaises with any research postgraduate student organisations or research institutions in and outside the University.
Nino Rodda - Faculty of Commerce, Law and Management Representative

  • Masters Degree in Environmental and Administrative Law from Wits University
  • Bachelor of Laws (LLB) Degree from Wits University

Responsibilities:

  • Liaise with all members and promote the postgraduate culture within of the Association in the Faculty of Commerce, Law & Management.
  • Represent the Association at the Faculty Executive Committee and Faculty Graduate Studies Committee, Selection Committees for the Dean of Students of Faculties, as well as at committees, working groups or task teams established to deal with activities related to postgraduate students within the Faculty.
Shaun Seema - Faculty of Humanities Representative

Current study: Masters of Art in Political Studies interested in the Comparison of Public Policy Planning and Public Policy Implementation

  • Bachelor of Arts Honours in Political and Developmental Studies from Wits University

  • Liaise with all members of the Association and promote the postgraduate culture within the Faculty of Humanities.
  • Represent the Association on the Faculty Executive Committee and Faculty Graduate Studies Committee, Selection Committees for the Dean of Students of Faculties, as well as on committees, working groups or task teams established to deal with activities related to postgraduate students within the Faculty of Humanities.
Queen Kambule - Faculty of Health Sciences Representative

  • Represents the association on committees, working groups or task teams established to deal with academic and administrative issues related to transformation policies in the university.

  • Liaises with the media in and outside the University and reports on developments to the Association.

  • Edits the newsletter or magazine of the Association.
  • Represents the Association on committees, working groups or task teams established to deal with activities related to publicity, media and information technology.
