IDORI Staff

The IDORI Leadership and Secretariat comprises : The Director, the Senior Scientific Advisor, Internal Advisory members, the Senior Program Manager, and the Research Administrator. The Director is also assisted by her Executive Assistant.

Glenda Gray

Professor Gray is the Director of IDORI at Wits. She was the first female President and CEO of the SAMRC, where she led the scientific strategy and prioritization of medical research in South Africa.

Bavesh Kana

Professor Kana forms part of the IDORI Advisory Committee, He directed the DSI/NRF Centre of Excellence for Biomedical Tuberculosis (TB) Research and he focused on developing new drugs, with a shorter treatment duration and fewer side effects.

Patrick Arbuthnot

Professor Arbuthnot forms part of the IDORI Advisory Committee. After working in Paris to investigate the development of gene therapy for treatment of liver cancer and HBV Infections; he then established and directed the Antiviral Gene Therapy Research Unit (AGTRU) at Wits University.

Robert Breiman

Professor Breiman is the Senior Scientific Advisor of the Infectious Diseases and Oncology Research Institute (IDORI) at Wits.

Caz McNamara

Caz McNamara is the Senior Program Manager of IDORI. She holds a Masters degree in Biochemistry from Rhodes University, and has more recently graduated cum laude with a Postgraduate Diploma in Research Management and Administration from Stellenbosch University.

Gladwin Gaehler

Gladwin Gaehler is at the Infectious Disease and Oncology Research Institute (IDORI) at Wits. He holds a Masters degree in Digital Media Ethics from Wits University and has a focus in digital media, events, VFX and marketing.

Katlego Nkala

Katlego Nkala is an Executive Personal Assistant to Professor Glenda Gray specialising in high-level administrative support ensuring seamless executive operations and effective coordination for leadership initiatives.
