DISCOURSE

IDORI is built on an ambition for transformational change; in other words, by binding together the two research disciplines of Infectious Diseases and Oncology, which will ultimately change the ways that many cancers are prevented, diagnosed and treated. In order for this to be successful, our scientists must embrace “thinking and acting outside the box” and ultimately do things differently, while maintaining scientific excellence.

The statement on the Consortium for Advanced Research Training in Africa (CARTA) Theory of Change: facilitating a critical mass of “institutional change agents who will train the next generation of African research leaders and engineer a shift towards research-supportive academic environments” deeply resonates with IDORI.

This transformational DIScovery via CARTA OUtcomes-based Research training and Scientific Excellence (DISCOURSE) Hub is committed to nurturing, mentoring and supporting early-career scientists in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) to conduct high quality research designed to provide evidence that will change the way high priority cancers are prevented, diagnosed and treated, reducing cancer burden in the region. Immersing young scientists in this effort surrounded by world class expertise and mentorship, will advance careers and provide a pathway towards substantively contributing to the next generation of scientific leadership in Africa. Fellows will receive first class mentorship while working on priority research, while IDORI will build on their passion and growing skills to achieve its objective of addressing the rising cancer burden in Africa.
