Mathematics

The MSc by dissertation in Mathematics is a 1 year full-time or 2 year part-time degree.

Overview


The School of Mathematics has active research programmes in algebra, linear and multilinear algebra, mathematical logic, functional analysis, number theory, combinatorics, graph theory, topological groups, differential operators and partial differential equations (including symmetries and conservation laws).

The (National) Centre for Excellence which attracts a large number of experts from across the world has a number of activities such as seminars, workshops and video conferencing that students can participate in with ease.

Career Opportunities


Most of our graduates work in academia, education, the financial sector, in mathematical finance and in the building of mathematical / statistical models of market and consumer behaviour. 

Entry Requirements


  • A Bachelor of Science Honours in a related field with a minimum weighted average of 65%.
  • A supervisor from the School must be identified and approached prior to application.

Please ensure that you have a supervisor willing to supervise your MSc dissertation.

  • Applicants can monitor the progress of their applications via the Self Service Portal.
  • Selections for programmes that have a limited intake but attract a large number of applications may only finalise the application at the end of the application cycle.
