Postgraduate Diploma in Taxation

The aim of this part-time programme is to supplement taxation studies after an undergraduate degree with a robust taxation course has been obtained.

Overview


The Postgraduate Diploma in Taxation is designed to provide a sophisticated background in advanced principles of domestic and international taxation.

It is designed to expose candidates to the rigorous academic challenges of tax law and to give them the opportunity to examine in greater depth those areas of fiscal theory and practice that are of particular interest. The objective of the programme is to confer an advanced diploma that reflects a mastery of tax law, its practice, ethics and subtleties.

  • Principles of International Tax
  • International Tax Treaties
  • Interpretation of Tax Statutes

Entry Requirements


Any of the following may be admitted as a candidate for the Postgraduate Diploma in Taxation provided that the Senate is satisfied that they qualify as a candidate:

  • A graduate holding a Bachelor of Commerce (major in Accounting who passed Taxation III) of this university.
  • A graduate holding a Bachelor of Accounting Science degree of this university.
  • A graduate of any other university who, in the opinion of the Senate, holds a qualification equivalent to the Bachelor of Commerce (with Taxation III) or the Bachelor of Accounting Science of this university.
  • A person who has in any other manner attained a level of competence which, in the opinion of the Senate, is adequate for the purpose of postgraduate studies in Taxation.

Please be advised that there are a limited number of places available. Applicants who meet the minimum application criteria are not guaranteed admission to the diploma. Other factors and criteria may be considered during the application process. An interview could be called for if the programme co-ordinator so determines.

  • Applications are handled centrally by the Student Enrolment Centre (SEnC). Once your application is complete in terms of requested documentation, your application will be referred to the relevant School for assessment. Click here to see an overview of the Wits applications process.   • Please apply online. Upload your supporting documents at the time of application, or via the Self Service Portal.
  • Applicants can monitor the progress of their applications via the Self Service Portal.
  • Selections for programmes that have a limited intake but attract a large number of applications may only finalise the application at the end of the application cycle.
