The Centre announces their open and upcoming Research Grant Funding Calls on this webpage. Conditions of the grants are outlined below and/or in the attached application e-forms and the required supporting documentation.
Institute of Mathematical Sciences and Applications Grant Funding
The Institute for Mathematical Sciences and Applications (IMSA), a recently established partnership between the Centre of Excellence for Mathematical and Statistical Sciences (CoE-MaSS) and the National Graduate Academy for Mathematical and Statistical Sciences (NGA(MaSS)), wishes to facilitate research collaborations involving early career mathematical scientists and next generation mathematical scientists at the member institutions of IMSA (CoE-MaSS/NGA(MaSS)). We aim to support up to twenty such research collaborations from a generous grant received from Investec.
Preference will be given to submissions that involve both early career mathematical scientists and next generation mathematical scientists where the latter would be pursuing their PhD degrees within the proposed research programme. Early career mathematical scientists considering participating in the activities described below are strongly advised to consider including mentors who are senior researchers and who can provide advice and guidance.

The Call for 2025 Ad-Hoc Research Grants and Events is currently closed.
The Centre does not fund the following:
- Article processing charges (APCs) – please follow your Institution’s processes for details
- Scholarships – please apply for funding via the NRF scholarships route
- Per diem stipends – please contact the relevant host entity/institution to cover these
- Outgoing international travel is only funded under EXCEPTIONAL circumstances
- Funding for equipment will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Laptops and notebooks are not funded.
